Mini Biography:
It is nice to meet you and I look forward to learning with you. A little bit about me...I have worked in the field of substance use disorder treatment and prevention in a variety of roles since 1981 and have a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University. More importantly, I am a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor (CAADC) in the State of Illinois. I have been a full time instructor here at Waubonsee Community College since 2016, serving as the coordinator of the accredited Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor Training Programs, preparing students for careers as human service and substance use disorder treatment professionals.
My professional interests include etiology, prevention and treatment of substance use disorder, influence of recovery status on SUD counselors, developing clinical skills for counselors, and how adults learn. On a personal note, I look forwards to outdoor vacations, visiting national parks, bike riding, and enjoy a wide variety of music.
Immediately prior to joining the faculty here I served for 17 years as the Executive Director at Breaking Free, Inc., an outpatient treatment and prevention agency located in Aurora, IL. I also served in a variety of clinical, supervisory and staff development roles at both outpatient and residential treatment settings in Illinois since beginning my career in 1981, and have also served as a volunteer for a number of nonprofit organizations, including Prevention First, IAODAPCA, the DuPage Prevention Partnership, DuPage MISA Consortium, and with PATH. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for Companeros en Salud/Partners in Health, NFP and the Illinois Certification Board (ICB). The proud parents of two children and grandparents of four, my wife and I currently reside in Wheaton Illinois.
